Business Law - Almost every area of law impacts businesses, including litigation of all types, employment issues, insurance coverage issues, corporation and limited liability formation, collections, buying and selling businesses and more. We represent and advise businesses of all kinds, from banks to the local "mom and pop" convenience store. [back to top]

Condemnation - Condemnation law is also sometimes called "Eminent Domain", and involves the government taking a person or company's property for a public purpose. There are various laws that allow a governmental entity to "condemn" property in this way, but all of those laws require the government to pay the landowner the fair market value of the property taken, and some of the laws require additional compensation as well. Many people incorrectly assume that they have to take the compensation that the government offers initially for their land. We have found that we can almost always assist landowners with obtaining more compensation than they were first offered for their land.[back to top]

Contracts - Drafting contracts is one of the most basic things that attorneys do, and we review and draft contracts nearly every day of the week. We draft contracts of all kinds, from complex loan agreements for banks, to employment contracts for both employers and employees, to real estate contracts for the sale or purchase of homes, down to a simple bill of sale for a car.[back to top]

Criminal - We regularly represent people who, whether unjustly or not, find themselves on the wrong end of a criminal charge filed against them. Our attorneys have handled murder cases, drug cases, batteries, DWIs, and misdemeanor charges of all kinds. We handle nearly 1000 traffic tickets for our clients each year.[back to top]

Employment - Employment law consistently ranks as one of the fastest growing areas of the law. Unfortunately for all of us (except perhaps attorneys!!), employment law is also becoming more and more complicated. Most people think about age discrimination or race discrimination when they think of "employment law", and it is true that they account for a significant portion of employment law cases. However, employment law also covers the Americans with Disabilities Act ("ADA"), the Family and Medical Leave Act, and even drafting policies and procedures for employers to stay compliant with employment laws.[back to top]

Estate Planning - Estate Planning is also an area of the law that is becoming more and more complicated, particularly after the Economic Growth and Tax Reconciliation Actof 2001. This law made substantial changes in the way attorneys and clients had been planning for transferring assets upon death. Perhaps you have heard someone remark that "You'd better not die until 2010, but make sure you don't wait until 2011," which is a true statement based on current law. One can no longer prepare an estate plan and then forget about it. It is important to follow the changes, which is what we do. We also draft wills all the time. [back to top]

Family Law - Family law cases, which include divorce, child custody, and the like, make up a substantial portion of all of the lawsuits filed across the country. Some do not realize that one cannot become divorced without filing a lawsuit, and it is awfully difficult to successfully win a lawsuit without an attorney. If you have a family law problem, we can advise you and perhaps even represent you.[back to top]

Litigation - "Litigation" can involve nearly every area of the law. We handle hundreds of litigation cases every year all over the State of Arkansas and beyond.[back to top]

Malpractice - The term "Malpractice" really covers several different areas of the law. Malpractice generally refers to the negligence of a licensed professional. Negligence committed by doctors, dentists, engineers, chiropractors, and even attorneys would all be considered "malpractice" cases. These cases often are the most difficult cases from an emotional perspective for our clients because they almost always involve harm caused by a person who was highly trusted by the client. We are sensitive to these feelings in every malpractice case we handle.[back to top]

Personal Injury - Personal injury cases make up a substantial portion of our practice. Unfortunately it seems our society frowns upon a person who asks to be made whole after being harmed by someone else. We don't share that belief. Our experience is that even the most vocal critic of lawsuits and "runaway juries" feels much differently when he or she finds himself or herself paralyzed or worse due to the fault of a careless person or a defective product. Don't make the mistake of thinking that the insurance adjuster who represents the person who caused your accident is your friend and is looking out for you. That is what we are here for.[back to top]

Real Estate - Real Estate law is another area of law that our attorneys regularly work in, and involves everything from drafting a simple deed, to representing first-time homeowners understand the stacks of paperwork that loan closings seem to generate these days, to complex purchases or sales of large commercial developments.[back to top]

Workers Compensation - Workers compensation laws were enacted years ago in order to cut down on lawsuits between employers and employees. These laws are referred to as "no-fault" laws, meaning (as a general matter), an employee who is hurt on the job is entitled to limited compensation no matter who is at fault for the injury, and the employer knows that the injury will normally not generate a large lawsuit. Normally an injured worker is entitled to have his or her medical bills paid, to receive a percentage of his or her wages while off work due to the injury, and to be compensated for any permanent effects of the injury. We have handled workers compensation cases on behalf of employers and employees alike.[back to top]

Everything Else - In our ever-complex world, it would be impossible to cover all areas of law that can come up and that we practice in. Chances are that if you find yourself with a legal problem, one of our attorneys has handled the same or similar kind of case or matter. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you are interested in hiring our firm to represent or advise you.[back to top]
